Calling All Bible Nerds!

I’m David Jesse, and I’m a Bible Nerd. I believe that understanding the Bible in its historic, geographic, religious and cultural CONTEXT makes us better Jesus followers.

I’m passionate about how CONTEXT takes the Bible from a “silent film era” viewing experience to “IMAX 3D.” This fresh, more intense experience with the Scriptures helps us “see Jesus more clearly, love Him more dearly, and follow Him more nearly – day by day.”

For decades I read the Bible through Western, protestant, evangelical eyes. I thought I understood the story. I served on staff in churches. Led lots of Bible studies. Went to Bible college. I knew what I knew.

All that changed when I visited Israel and had a life-changing experience. As a result, I caught the slightest glimpse of what seeing the Bible in CONTEXT does to the story when the flannel-graph images cemented in my mind were completely demolished.

A New Way of Understanding the Bible

After that, I returned from Israel on a mission to try to understand what Jesus’ disciples would have thought when they heard His words. And I’ve never looked back.

Since then, I’ve devoured hundreds of books and thousands of hours of teaching from a historic, geographic, religious and cultural CONTEXT. This has been both amazing, and perilous.

There is so much misinformation and speculation in this area. The education and experience I’ve developed over this time has prepared me to help others navigate the world of Biblical CONTEXT, while avoiding many of the pitfalls. 

I’ve written and spoken about CONTEXT to thousands of Christians in churches, conferences and online over the past decade. The response has always been very positive. My mission is to make the complicated, simple.
